Static reference
The static reference carries the same figures and the same steps as the 3D model. Nothing is lost except the ability to rotate it.
How to use it
- Drag to rotate the top; scroll to zoom.
- Choose X-bracing, fan, ladder, double-X or scalloped.
- Change brace height and width and watch the modal response.
- Play the vibration simulation.
- Compare two bracing patterns side by side.
What it reports
- Panel stiffness
- The dominant resonance
- A tonal tendency — bright or warm
- A suggested brace size for the top thickness
- A structural risk warning when the bracing is too light
Bracing does two jobs at once: it holds the top against string tension and it shapes how the top moves. X-bracing is stiff and balanced; scalloped bracing is lighter and louder but less forgiving.
What this model doesA guitar top with its braces, in 3D, with the bracing pattern and the brace dimensions under your control. The model reports the resulting stiffness and the resonant character, and flags a structure that is too thin to hold.
Safety
- These models are teaching simulations. They are not a measurement of your instrument and they are not a substitute for the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Fret wire ends are sharp. Wear eye protection when you cut, file and crown frets, and sweep the bench rather than blowing the offcuts away.
- Wood dust from rosewood, ebony, mahogany and cedar is a respiratory sensitiser. Use extraction or a P2/P100 respirator when you sand or rout.
- A strung instrument stores real energy. Bring strings up to pitch gradually and never put your face over a neck while you tune it up for the first time.
