Static reference

A strung guitar beside a magnified view of six strings under tension

The static reference carries the same figures and the same steps as the 3D model. Nothing is lost except the ability to rotate it.

How to use it

  • Drag to rotate the guitar; scroll to zoom.
  • Step through the setup in order: relief, action, nut, intonation, check.
  • Drag the bridge and nut to adjust them directly.
  • Read the measurement against the target at every step.
  • Export the finished setup report.

What it reports

  • Neck relief
  • Action at the twelfth fret
  • Intonation at the twelfth fret
  • An overall playability score
  • The remaining adjustments
  • A downloadable setup report

A setup is a sequence. Changing the relief moves the action; changing the action moves the intonation. Doing them out of order means doing them twice.

What this model doesA complete guitar you can rotate freely, with a step-by-step setup that walks through relief, action, nut height, intonation and a final check. Each step shows the measurement, the target and the adjustment, and the finish is a setup report.
Safety
  • These models are teaching simulations. They are not a measurement of your instrument and they are not a substitute for the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Fret wire ends are sharp. Wear eye protection when you cut, file and crown frets, and sweep the bench rather than blowing the offcuts away.
  • Wood dust from rosewood, ebony, mahogany and cedar is a respiratory sensitiser. Use extraction or a P2/P100 respirator when you sand or rout.
  • A strung instrument stores real energy. Bring strings up to pitch gradually and never put your face over a neck while you tune it up for the first time.
